We the People State Finals

We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution
A Simulated Congressional Hearing Competition

The North Carolina State Finals was held at North Carolina Central University School of Law and School of Education, Durham, N.C. on Friday, March 11, 2011

CONGRATULATIONS to the winning class in the 2011 state competition NORTHWEST GUILFORD HIGH SCHOOL, Greensboro.  They will represent North Carolina at the National Finals to be held on April 30 – May 2, 2011; semifinals in Arlington, Va., and final round on Capitol Hill, Washington, D.C.

Final results:
First Place - Northwest Guilford High School, Greensboro
Second Place - Raleigh Charter High School, Raleigh
Third Place - East Mecklenburg High School, Charlotte

Unit Awards*:
UNIT ONE: North Hills Christian High School, Salisbury
UNIT TWO:  Forest Hills High School, Marshville
UNIT THREE: Military & Global Leadership Academy, Charlotte
UNIT FOUR: West Craven High School, Vanceboro
UNIT FIVE: Northwest Guilford High School, Greensboro
UNIT SIX: Camp Lejeune High School, Camp Lejeune

*Awards are given to the panel of students who scored the highest on a unit, however, the top three are normally excluded from this category.  However, there were eight schools competing and nine awards to be distributed which allowed for the top team to also receive a unit award.  Therefore, in accordance with the national competition, each school receives an award.
