Civility in an Uncivilized Environment
Edenton, NC
August 1 – 3, 2011
OPPORTUNITY FOR MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL EDUCATORS!
The North Carolina Bar Association Foundation invites you to apply for the
2011 Justice Teaching Institute
JTI is an opportunity for 20 middle and high school social studies and language arts teachers to gain a deeper understanding of justice and the North Carolina Constitution. This year's JTI will focus on civility in a politically diverse country that operates under the rule of law. Our modern court system protects us from vigilante justice and random verdicts based upon the whim of a monarchy or dictator.
Highlights of the program will include participation in a Moot Court activity in the Chowan County Courthouse in operation since 1767, the oldest operating courthouse in the nation; training in conflict resolution, mediation and arbitration techniques in a variety of situations. In addition, a tour of Edenton as well as other historic places of interest in the northeastern region.
Participants will be responsible for arranging travel to Edenton. A travel stipend will be provided for teachers who must travel more than 45 miles to get to Edenton. All other program expenses (including hotel and meals) will be arranged and paid for by the North Carolina Bar Association Foundation.
