Big Bad Wolf Mock Trial

The Big Bad Wolf Elementary Mock Trial is a video project developed by one of the North Carolina Bar Association Foundation’s Law-Related Education subcommittees to provide elementary school teachers with a legal and civics related educational resource.

On behalf of the Big Bad Wolf Crew and the NCBA Foundation we want to thank Cindy Jarrett and her fifth grade students for their dedication, enthusiasm and compliance throughout the production of this video project.

Cynthia Jarrett’s fifth grade class at Durant Road Elementary School in Raleigh participated (as role players) in this trial and Judge Craig Croom presided.  The mock trial was videoed at the Wake County Superior Courthouse in Raleigh on Friday, May 6, 2011 from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.  The video and accompanying materials will be posted on the NCBA Law-Related Education website http://lre.ncbar.org in early September 2011.

Case Synopsis

The Big Bad Wolf has been accused of murdering 2 of the 3 pig brothers, “Straw Pig and Stick Pig”.  The wolf’s defense is that the deaths were accidental and that it is all a big misunderstanding. The surviving pig “Brick Pig”, as well as other witnesses are put on the state to testify what they saw and to tell their stories. The Big Bad Wolf maintains that he was simply looking to borrow a cup of sugar, when he started sneezing. The Big Bad Wolf explains that Straw Pig and Stick Pig were already dead when he found them and it would be a waste and a crime to leave them just lying there, so he ate them. The jury is to reach a verdict, that the Big Bad Wolf is either guilty or not guilty based upon the evidence presented. View photos here. (coming soon)
