Teens and Attorneys: Partner in Success (TAP)

The Teens and Attorneys Partner for Success (TAPS) chaired by Jeffrey Edwards and was held July 11-15. 2011.  Sixteen male students from middle schools in Durham had been selected and participanted in the week long camp hosted at North Carolina Central University in Durham and funded by the endowment grant from the North Carolina Bar Association Foundation.

TAPS:  The goal of TAPS is to empower young men transitioning into 9th grade by teaching them skills that will enable them to be more successful in their high school careers. Our intention is to expose them to support systems and resources that they may not have access to otherwise, including:

     Conflict Resolution Skills
     Civic Engagement
     Community Awareness
     Visit to Polk Correctional Facility
     Job Interviewing Skills
     Personal Financial Literacy

Relevant Information:
Students were picked up at their home (or designated place) each morning and dropped off each day.

Each day the students had Law Students, Attorneys and Judges working with them.

Parents were welcomed on the final day when final certificates and stip-ends were awarded.

NOTE: This was a one time special initiative event and not offered at this time.
